Litigation and disputes

Not every dispute is worth fighting in court. We give you a straight read on your options, and the likely cost, before any serious money is spent.

How we help

  • Contract and commercial disputes
  • Debt recovery
  • Neighbourhood disputes about trees and fences
  • Mediation and negotiated settlements
  • Representation in QCAT and the courts

How it works

  1. A free first call to hear the story as you see it.
  2. An honest assessment of your position, the risks and the likely cost.
  3. We try to resolve it early, through negotiation or mediation.
  4. If it has to go further, we run it efficiently and keep you informed at every step.

What it costs

We give you a written estimate for each stage, so you can decide at every point whether it is worth continuing. We'll also explain the cost risks, including the chance of paying the other side's costs if you lose.

Common questions

Is it worth going to court over this?

Sometimes. We compare what you could recover with what it is likely to cost, including your time and stress, and tell you plainly.

What is the difference between QCAT and court?

QCAT, the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, deals with many smaller claims and neighbourhood disputes and is usually quicker and cheaper. Bigger matters go to the Magistrates, District or Supreme Court.

Someone has sent me a letter of demand. What should I do?

Don't ignore it, and don't reply in anger. Note any deadline in the letter and get advice before you respond.
