PRACTICE AREA
Commercial and business law
Practical advice for owners who'd rather be running the business than reading contracts. We help you set things up properly and step in quickly when something goes wrong.
How we help
- Business structures and shareholder agreements
- Buying or selling a business
- Commercial contracts, terms of trade and supplier agreements
- Commercial and retail leases
- Debt recovery
- Partnership and shareholder disputes
How it works
- A free first call about your business and what is worrying you.
- A clear scope and a fixed fee for the work, or an estimate where the scope can't be fixed.
- Plain-English documents you can actually use, with a walkthrough before you sign.
- One solicitor who knows your business, on the other end of the phone when you need them.
What it costs
Most business documents are fixed fee. For transactions and disputes we give you a written estimate and update it if the scope changes.
Common questions
Do we need a shareholder agreement if we're friends?
That is when you need it most. A shareholder agreement sets out what happens if someone wants out, can't work or disagrees about the direction of the business, before emotions are involved.
A customer won't pay. What can I do?
Start with a letter of demand. Many debts are paid at that stage. If not, we'll talk you through the cost of recovery before you spend more money chasing it.
Can you review a lease before I sign?
Yes. Commercial and retail leases often run for years, so a review before signing is one of the best-value things a business can do.
